Tarrah Burns, 24, Melbourne VIC
Professional ballerina & student

As a professional athlete, health and fitness has always played a huge role in my life. I started dancing when I was just three years old, teaching me the importance of core strength and stability, instilling a discipline like no other sport.  I have been hugely involved in all physical activity from a young age. I love keeping fit and healthy, it’s a big part of who I am. I try and exercise every day, even if it’s as simple and walking the dog. I always choose to get involved in fun runs held on the weekends and I just completed the Mother’s Day Classic running 8km, raising money for Breast Cancer Awareness.

1. What is your favourite make up trend at the moment?
Simplicity is the key. Natural beauty is the best form of beauty and covering it up with too much makeup not only is bad for your skin but also masks your true self. There is nothing more striking than soft pink lip, brush of bronzer, thin top lid of eyeliner and lengthening mascara. My favourite go to colour at the moment is from Face of Australia called Lasting Looks Lip Crème in Permanently Pink.

2. What is your foolproof, never fail make up look?
BB cream is my saviour! A light and simple coverage that adds brightness to you skin. Pair that with a quick lick of mascara and you’re simply set for the day.

3. What product couldn’t you live without?
Definitely my bronzer. By creating depth to your face and highlighting features gives your face a 3D effect and makes you ready in just seconds.

4. What is your top beauty secret?
I might sound cliché but my best beauty secret is to drink plenty of water. As a dancer your water intake is very important in staying hydrated to feel and look your best. If you’re healthy on the inside it reflects on the outside.

5. What’s next on your beauty wish list?
I would love to get contouring products. Since being in the Miss Universe Australia competition and being under such bright lights on stage I understand the importance of contouring and giving your face depth.

6. What is your biggest make up faux pas?
I am guilty at times of going to bed with my makeup on.

7. Who is your favourite past Miss Universe Australia winner?
Scherri-Lee Biggs has always been a huge inspiration to me. Her down to earth persona, gorgeous smile and true love for Australia makes her a respectable and relatable young women. Her natural beauty inside and out has the power to light up a room and has encouraged me to live life to the fullest and never let there be a dull moment.

8. Who is your favourite Aussie designer?
I love the clean cut and classy style of White Suede designs. I have been given the opportunity to be dressed by White Suede during the National Final week and am honoured to be wearing such an iconic Australian brand.

9. What is the main thing that you want to get out of this competition? My journey so far is of growth and intrigue.  I am amazed at the generosity of the other contestants and their friendships.  I am always learning new things every day such as dealing with media interviews and meeting new people and making them feel comfortable.  My sense of wonder is ever growing at the good that can come of being Miss Universe Australia, and by sharing with the world our fantastic, multicultural melting pot that is Australia.  I am always doing something new in this competition and stepping out of my comfort zone whilst finding that I am really enjoying this new path and personal growth.

11. Tell us something that not many people know about you!
I spent a good part of my childhood growing up in country South Australia. I have a huge appreciation for the outdoors and nature and am mesmerised the Australian coastline. I developed a love for all animals from a very young age and I’m not afraid to have a go and get my hands dirty.
